All the skills and knowledge you need to become a truly effective manager


Who are these qualifications for?

This course is ideal for new and aspiring department heads, regional team leaders and other middle managers. By taking the course you will understand the critical factors which are pertinent to the role and gain comprehensive business knowledge to ensure that you are able to lead at this level.

This qualification is available as a concise Award, a broader Certificate and a comprehensive Diploma.

There are six broad areas which this course will cover:

  • Working with people – a range of units including how to motivate your team and techniques and strategies to develop the people you manage
  • Managing yourself and personal skills – including units that focus on assessing your own leadership performance, developing the mental toughness to handle challenges and opportunities and stresses in your role
  • Providing direction – for example, the skills to plan and lead a complex team activity
  • Facilitating innovation and change – for example, assessing the implications of change so you can manage it effectively and strategies to encourage innovation in your teams
  • Achieving results – such as techniques for making strong, effective decisions and finding and implementing solutions
  • Using resources – including solid abilities to plan and control budgets


Progression pathway

These qualifications will provide progression opportunities to other qualifications such as:

  • ILM Level 5 Award or Certificate in Leadership and Management

50 hours


Structure

There is a minimum of 9 hours of structured learning (depending on the units selected), plus self-study, project work and assignments. There are no mandatory units and a range of optional units. Learners must attain a minimum of 5 credits and no more than 12 to achieve this qualification.
