It will come as no surprise that as many as 80% of presentations, from the audience perspective, are mind numbingly dull and boring. The audience find it hard to stay tuned in to the speaker, who produces slide after slide, and before long their attention wanders, and their eyes linger on the clock!
20% of presentations are however stimulating, memorable, inspiring, engaging and a worthwhile use of everyone’s time. The speaker takes responsibility for their audience, and communicates in their language, and ensures that the medium used to convey the message is relevant, and for the benefit of the audience.
Those who have the ability to deliver business presentations with panache and confidence are very valuable company assets and are usually the first to be called on when something important has to be communicated to a group of colleagues.
There is no simple magic wand when it comes to giving memorable presentations, but through effective preparation, learning a few ‘tricks of the trade’ and with lots of practise, anyone can have the confidence to deliver information successfully to small or large audiences.
